Gourmet Turon by The Sweet Life in Angono Rizal!

Still surprises us up to now that there's tons of food hubs in Angono Rizal that's sprouting like mushrooms! Though Angono may be popular on its own as the Art Capital of the Philippines and the colorful Higantes Festival during town fiesta, it's becoming more and more popular with different restaurant like the cafe that we recently visited.
 Turonne de Manila or the "Gourmet Turon" is a food venture that started in Mercato Central that got the interest of the sweet tooth and curious adventurers alike. The bubbly owner of the cafe Nicole welcomed us with a great chat regarding the business. The inspiration for this Gourmet Turon is the delicate french dessert Eclair. His uncle made a twist to it and created the Filipino version.
The Sweet Life is located right beside Richmond Subdivision in Angono Rizal right above the newly opened Pizza Hut. It's a place where you can have a great chat and catch up sessions with friends.
 The interiors were very chic and homey and can accommodate a good number of customers especially beyond 5 oclock where they offer al fresco dining. Wifi is available for those who will ask. ;)
 Knit knats decorations, framed pictures and books are also present in their cafe. You can also read and check their books while staying on their cafe.
 They try to personalize every detail as much as possible like this CCTV signage. Kyot! :D
 The Sweet Life offers a variety of menu selections. Though this one is not yet updated, I was informed that they will be upgrading their menu and adding more choices like pasta, rice meals, panini, and picka picka.
 Cookies and Cream Frappe | Black Forest (160 pesos each) - Rich blended drink, topped with their whipped cream. Though I wished this was served colder, the drink was actually good! Especially the whipped cream that reminded us of Coffee Bean's version. The price may be steep for some students, they also offer Milk Shakes that is equally affordable. I have to try and looking forward for their hot coffee next time. I've heard they have in-house barista and do latte arts as well.
 Pesto Cream Cheese Bacon Burger (80 pesos) - I have to be honest, when I saw this product on their Instagram, I instantly requested boyfie to go there. My dearest readers, you know how much I'm a fan and lover of pesto. In fact, I am really picky when it comes to pesto. But this burger is something you MUST NOT miss when visiting the cafe. The pesto cream is the "real deal". No shortcuts, just plain ol' good home made pesto cream cheese. The burger patty? Really flavorful and no extenders!

 Salted Caramel Turon - You might wonder what's with the gourmet turon right? But not to make it complicated anymore is that, it is the classic Filipino favorite --turon. But it is beautifully topped with sinful cream, topped, drizzled or sprinkled with the particular flavor that you choose.This Salted Caramel is perfect for sweet tooth foodies out there. Especially if you can handle sweet caramelly flavor. Yum!
 Bacon - Maple Turon - Their best seller. B-A-C-O-N because why not?
 Cookies and Cream - I was informed that this is "the one" that started it all. ;)
Strawberry Shortcake - Strawberry cream, strawberry on top, with chocolate. Personal favorite of the owner. 
 Turon with Ube - Can you say no to this colorful treat? And I've heard that they are planning to release more varieties soon! 
And oh! Did you know that they also been awarded as the Best in Dessert 2014 during the event of Mercato Central named: The Next Big Food Entrepreneur?

Pistachio Avocado Cheesecake by Pellegrino's!

If you are working or located in Makati Area, most probably you have heard of the name Pellegrino's. To be exact, it is Pellegrino's Roasted Chicken that is popular for their food trays that is good to go. Specializing in Roasted Chicken that also offers pastas, salads, bbq, and different rice meals upon requests.
 But now, they are taking another step higher as they launched their new addition to their line. Cakes by Pellegrino's! The friendly owner Abbie and his hubby were kind enough to send a boy of cake to our doorstep and let us taste their new product. I am torn choosing between their Choco Hazelnut, but for a change, I tried their Pistachio Avocado Cheesecake because I find it really interesting.
 The cake was delivered by City Delivery and I guess the driver encountered some fights with bumpy roads along the way that's why you may noticed that the cake collapsed a bit. Though I think it's a once in a blue moon instance since I've seen that others received their cakes on its best shape, I still recommend picking up your cake at Pellegrino's just to make sure.
 
I honestly don't know what to expect since it is my first time trying out an Avocado Cheesecake and in all fairness, it did not disappoint! I liked that the Avocado flavor has just the right amount and did not overpower the flavor of the cheesecake itself. If there is one thing I think they should improve is the icing on the side, since it's not like the creamy icing one, because this one has this sugar-y texture. But their crust is something I also must commend since it's not just some crushed biscuit alone, but you can taste bits of nuts on it to give it a nicer texture. But my favorite amongst the cake is the heaping amount of pistachio nuts on top!  I tell you, even though I am wearing braces, it did not stop me for indulging on this treat!

Going Back Home @ Pancake House!

Hey Hey Foodies! I'm back! Apologies if I wasn't able to post something new on the blog. Very busy with wedding preps the past days, but I'm finally here once again! Will make it up to you, I promise! (kisses!)
 This first post for 2015 is something we are very much familiar with. I even think that it's probably one of the most loved restaurants here in the Philippines. Pancake House! wohooo! Who wouldn't anyway? From the classic goodness of delicious comfort foods any time of the day is now even better now that they are tied up with Max's Group Inc (Including Teriyaki Boy and Dencio's) *even noticed their new sexy logo?
 Wasn't able to take a whole shot of their newly opened branch in Capitol Commons but the place is really laid back and breezy. You might even notice a big change with their interiors like the posters on the wall, etc. But the beautiful wooden interiors is still present to give everyone a homey feeling.
 A pancake house visit will never be complete without the classic, unbeatable fluffy Classic Pancake (144 pesos) of Pancake House. You can never go wrong with this one! Way, way better that others that came all the way from the states! (if you know what I mean).
 Spaghetti with Meat Sauce (180 pesos) - It's really funny that every time we go to Pancake House, we always thought that the sauce is too little. But it always proves us wrong! You might as well that the sauce is too little, but mind you, underneath that pasta is the generous amount of spaghetti sauce that smothered all throughout the pasta strands. I won't get tired of saying this but, Pancake House still serves the meatiest spaghetti EVER! PERIOD.
 Hot Roast Beef (278 pesos) - I ordered this one because I can clearly remember the time I tried their roast beef. It is still exceptionally good. It has around 5 slices of roast beef smothered in their creamy mushroom sauce. I was surprised to see that it was served on a soft bread because I expected it to be served with rice, but nevertheless, Roast Beef is Roast Beef and I still enjoyed it. haha!
 Pork Vienna (246 pesos) - Boyfie tried this one since it's one of their best sellers. Breaded lean pork fried 'til golden brown and served with coleslaw. We were both surprised how huge is their serving size! No kidding aside but this dish is good for two already! Some even order this and add extra rice and shared it for two pax. People nowadays, tends to think that Pancake House is somewhat on the expensive side. But come to think of it guys, the serving size and quality of their food speaks for itself already!
 Best Taco in Town (110 pesos) - This is the first time that I have to try their famous taco. I even wondered why it was labeled as such. Upon getting my first bite, I knew instantly that the taco shell was the one that made a huge difference from others. It is firm and crispy that holds the filling properly. The taste of the taco shell has a flavor on its own. It was filled with hefty amount of taco meat sauce, coleslaw, cheese and tomatoes!

GMA’s Basta Everyday Happy and Sarap Diva Recipes!

This coming January 24 and 31, GMA 7's Sarap Diva and Basta Everyday Happy will be sharing you healthy yet delicious treats with the help of Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil. This is perfect for the season after the indulgence we had last Christmas and New Year right?

Canola Oil is one of the healthiest cooking oils because of its LOW saturated fat (BAD FAT) and high monounsaturated fat (GOOD FAT) content. Hosted by Donita Rose, GMA 7’s Basta Everyday Happy, recently showcased heart-healthy recipes using Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil through the month of December. Eight episodes featured Filipino-favorites such as Beef Stew, Crispy Calamari, and one of Donita’s personal favorites such as Crispy Binagoongan, Beef Kaldereta version that made the Caldereta healthier with Jolly Heart Mate Canola Oil!”  Other healthy everyday recipes included Wholesome Chicken, Paella..  
Heart-Healthy Salmon

 INGREDIENTS:

For the Salmon:
2 center-cut salmon fillets (6 oz. each)
1 1/2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
¼ cup finely chopped cilanto
2 Tbsp Jolly Canola oil
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the Salsa:
1 medium red onion
3 garlic cloves
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
3 pcs medium tomatoes
2 firm-ripe avocados
1 pc rip mango
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice, or to taste
PROCEDURE:

Place the salmon fillets in a shallow bowl. Toss well with lemon juice, cilantro, Jolly Canola oil, and pepper. Let rest for 15 minutes. Cook the salmon, skinside down in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat for 2 to 3 minutes, shaking the pan and carefully lifting the salmon with a spatula to loosen it from the pan. Reduce the heat to medium. Cover the pan and cook until the salmon is cooked through, 3 to 4 minutes more. The skin should be crisp and the flesh medium rare. To make the salsa: Finely chop onion and mince garlic. In a bowl toss onion and garlic with cilantro. Chop tomatoes and mango, add to onion mixture, tossing to combine. Peel and pit avocados and cut into 3/4-inch pieces. Add avocados, lime juice, and pepper to taste. Spoon over cooked salmon.

 Catch Sarap Diva with Regine Velasquez-Alcasid on January 24 and 31 at 9:40 a.m. to 10:25 a.m. as she dishes out two, exciting dishes: Pamplina, a Spanish-influenced soup dish, and tasty Pork Steak with Mushroom Bits.
 PORK STEAK WITH MUSHROOM BITS

INGREDIENTS:

1 kg pork steak, cut into small cubes
1/2 cup soy sauce
salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp ground paprika
2 tbsps Jolly Canola Oil
2-3 tbsps chopped garlic
2 cans Jolly Button Mushroom Whole, cut in half
1/2 cup red wine
2 tbsps butter
garnish with some toasted garlic and chopped parsley
PROCEDURE:
   Season pork steak in soy sauce, salt and pepper, set aside. Preheat a pan with some Jolly Canola Oil and cook the pork cubes until slightly brown in color. Remove from pan. Toss in the chopped garlic and Jolly Button Mushrooms. Saute then season with some salt, pepper and ground paprika. Deglaze with the red wine then simmer until sauce is slightly thick. Mix in the cooked pork and cold butter. Transfer to a plate then garnish with some toasted garlic and chopped parsley.
